Mahendra Singh Dhoni is an Indian cricketer who was born on 7 July 1981 in Ranchi, Bihar (now Jharkhand). He is a caption in Indian Cricket team. Dhoni is an attacking right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper widely regarded as one of the best finishers in limited overs and also the best wicket keeper in the Indian team. After resigning from Air India, Dhoni holds the post of Vice-President of ‘India Cement Ltd’, who is the owner of IPL team Chennai Super Kings.
Dhoni has achieved many awards including ICC ODI player of the year in 2008 and 2009. He is the first player to win this award twice. He has also achieved ‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna’ Award in 2007 and India’s fourth highest civilian honor ‘Padma Shri’ in 2009. Apart from cricket, Dhoni Holds the Honorary rank of ‘Lieutenant Colonel’ of the Indian Territorial Army since 1st November 2011. Dhoni has been rated 16th most marketable athlete in the world by Sports Pro in 2012.
In 1998, Deval Sahay selected Mahendra Singh Dhoni to play for the Central Coal Fields Limited team. Till 1998, Dhoni had played only school cricket and club cricket.
Dhoni made his ‘Ranji Trophy’ debut for Bihar at the age of eighteen in the sessions 1999-2000. He made a half-century by scoring 68 against Assam Cricket Team.
In the 2002-2003 session, Dhoni made his three half-centuries in the Ranji Trophy and a couple of half-century in Deodhar Trophy with his hard hitting batting style.
In 2003-2004 sessions, Dhoni was selected in the One Day Format and selected for the India A. Dhoni had his best stumping with 7 catches against Zimbabwe.
As the caption of the Indian team, Dhoni has been suspended in 2009 for two ODI matches due to his team’s slow over rate. But apart from this, Dhoni was also the caption of India in two World Cups. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India won the World Cup in 2011.
