Jim Carrey is Canadian-American actor and producer widely known for his chewy body movements and bendable facial expressions. He is a two-time Golden Globe-winner. He came to limelight as a cast member of the Fox sketch comedy In Living Color (1990) but leading roles in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994) and The Mask (1994) made him as a commercial comedy actor.
His complete name is James Eugene Carrey. He was born on January 17, 1962 in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada and is the youngest amongst his siblings. Jim was an inoperable gregarious person from day one. Jim worked for The Carol Burnett Show (1967) when he was 10. He did stand-up routines for his classmates when he was in junior high school.
His stand-up debut was made in Toronto. Jim polished his technique into a habitual appearance at The Comedy Store, where he intimidated Rodney Dangerfield so much that the veteran comic signed him as an opening act for an entire season. Throughout this time he met and fell for Melissa Womer who was waitress by profession and later on they married, with whom he had a daughter (Jane). Later they were divorced in December 1994. He earned a great success in the Farrelly brothers’ Dumb and Dumber (1994).
Carrey transported his overexcited antics onto the set of Batman Forever (1995), substituting Robin Williams as The Riddler.
He has also filmed the follow-up to his burst through, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995), and inked a deal with Sony to star in The Cable Guy (1996) (replacing Chris Farley) for a cool $20 million–at the time, that was the biggest up-front sum that had been offered to any comic actor. Even though Carrey maintains a grip in the comedy world with films such as Bruce Almighty (2003) and Mr. Popper’s Penguins (2011), he also has capacity of turning in nuanced dramatic performances, as demonstrated in films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) and the drama/comedy Yes Man (2008).
He has co-starred with Steve Carell in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013).
He married actress Lauren Holly in 1996 but they separated within a year.
