Genes

As the disease does not follow a classic inheritance pattern, acne susceptibility is likely due to the influence of multiple genes.

Hormones

Hormones activity such as puberty, menstrual cycle, play big role in the formation of acne. An increase in sex hormones called androgens causes the skin follicle glands to make oilier sebum. Several hormones have been linked to acne including androgens testosterone.

Apart from Genes and Hormonal changes, unbalanced diet, infection and stress may also cause acne.

Treatment

Acne has become a general problem, especially for teenagers. And now, many treatments are available to get rid of acne. Common treatment includes topical therapies such as benzoyl peroxide, retinoid and systematic therapies including hormonal agents, and oral retinoid.
