Taj Mahal is a white marble undercroft, which is situated on the south bank of Yamuna River in Agra. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan contracted Taj Mahal in 1632 for his favorite wife Mumtaz Mahal. Construction of Taj Mahal was completed in 1653. The architecture of the Taj Mahal was given by Mughal architect ‘Ustad Ahmad Lahauri’. Taj Mahal is admired attractive master piece in India. It was designated as a UNESCO world Heritage site in 1983 for being the jewel of Muslim art in India. In a year approximately 7-8 million visitors come to Agra to visit Taj. Taj was declared 7th wonder of the world in 2007.
Tomb of the Taj Mahal is the central focus of entire complex. The tomb is a white marble structure stand on a square base.
Three sides surround the Taj Mahal by red sandstone walls. At the far end of the complex are two sandstone building mirroring each other and face the side of the tomb of the Taj Mahal.
Most visitors visit in the cooler month of October, November, and December. Taj Mahal is considering as the first example of Mughal architecture, a style that merges elements from Islamic, Ottoman Turkish and Indian architectural style.
